We are uncovering better ways of developing software by doing it and helping others do it. Through this work we have come to value:

Individuals and interactions over processes and tools
Working software over comprehensive documentation
Customer collaboration over contract negotiation
Responding to change over following a plan

That is, while there is value in the items on the right, we value the items on the left more.

Brent Blake: (KRS) Andy Keohane: People relate to Scrum because it's more like the real world they live in the rest of the time. You don't stick to a plan regardless, you adapt. Interpersonal contact is far more productive and rewarding than a bucket load of documents that nobody read anyway. Scrum is first a methodology, but secondly an approach. Getting to the second stage is more difficult, but very rewarding.
